Mahabharata

Katkatha’s Mahabharata, explores the inner dilemma and back stories of 14 characters in the play. Each character in the Mahabharata is an archetype whose single minded and unquestioning loyalty to one belief leads to the inevitable conflict. Was there ever a moment when each of these human beings by making a choice, the choice of letting go, could have averted the war?
Created in collaboration with traditional and contemporary artists, this 90mins performance, is a confluence of puppetry and theatrical elements, strung together to create a narrative that engages and impacts the contemporary audience. A mix of verbal and non-verbal, physical, movement based puppet and theatre genres, this performance introduces you to several elements of traditional theatre while dressing it in a very modern aesthetic.

Exploring physicality through Laban effort
Laban Movement workshop will provide students with a clear and understandable tool set that will enable them to grow their own movement vocabulary and discover new ways to physicalise character.
Movement theorist Rudolf Laban, categories movement into four fundamental qualities: Weight, Time, Space, and Flow, each with its own dynamic characteristics forming the eight efforts.
While understanding these movement efforts, students will connect more deeply with the process of creating movement in their performances, linking their actions to the intentions of their characters.
